Yokozuna was the higher rank of a sumotori, above the sanyaku. [1] It was attained very rarely and only by sumo of truly legendary skill and stature. A declarations of yokozuna required winning at least two consecutive Imperial Winter Court tournaments while suffering no losses. [2]
