Yogo Junzo was the Yogo Daimyō under the reign of Bayushi Shoju. [1]

Father[]

In defiance of the Yogo family traditions that kept parents and children at a distance, Junzo had been involved in most of his father's theological inquiry and ritual experiments from an early age. Junzo had never married and had no children of his own, he would leave it to the family’s elders to choose his successor when the time came. His father speculated that the creation of the Shadowed Swamps was a result of a path to Jigoku being opened within the Shinomen Forest. [2] Junzo loved his father, but he was obsessed with Iuchiban, the fallen leader of the Bloodspeaker cult. When Junzo's master claimed to have located one of the lost Masks of Iuchiban that were key to reopening the blood sorcerer's tomb and was intent on arranging an expedition to the Shadowed Swamps to recover it, Junzo's father became an unwitting pawn of the last vestiges of the cult. Junzo was forced to betray his own father and revealed his father's weakness to the leader of the Black Watch, who quickly took care of him [3] in 1099. [2]

Duty[]

In 1123 Shoju, recently named as the Imperial Regent, assigned Junzo a task that would endanger his very soul, so he sequestered himself in the Castle of Learning to perform the investigation. [4] Kunshu, the ancestral sword of the Hantei which had been wielded to murder the Emperor Hantei the Thirty-Eighth, had been sent to Junzo for safekeeping. The Yogo Daimyō studied the sword and reported that ‘A curse of treason upon the blade of the Hantei.’ [5] The soul of the blade had tasted blood, the blood of the line it was wrought to serve and protect. The horror and guilt of what it had done was consuming the awakened spirit from within. Junzo realized that only a Hantei could lift the curse, but both princes had vanished shortly after the Emperor had been murdered. [3]

Death[]

Junzo felt the arrival of a tainted creature on disguise, Lady Atsuko, claiming to have some secret knowledge concerning some threat from the Shadowed Swamps. Junzo expected he would entrap the creature within the audience chamber, and then interrogate it to discover its plans. But Lady Atsuko shifted to its centipede form and attacked Junzo and his guards. At the same time goblins, ogres, and terrible monstrosities were attempting to scale the castle walls and, failing that, trying to tear down the main gate. Junzo fell down when he couldn't fight the bloodthirsty spirit of Kunshu which called out to him and the demon at once. A Scorpion bushi, Yogo Jiro, who had escorted Lady Atsuko to the Castle, escaped on top of a horse to warn the Regent, but he was unaware that within the horse's saddlebags had been planted the Black Scroll every Yogo Daimyō had sworn to secure within the castle. Jiro was ambushed on his way to Otosan Uchi. [2] Junzo died by the dark sorceries of the demon-witch from the Shinomen Forest. [6]
