Yasuki Extortionists were moneylenders, so they made their profits through loans and interest payment. They also used intimidation and blackmail to earn political gains. [1]

Origin[]

The Extortionist tradition originated not long after the Crane-Crab War. Intimidating political philosophies of their new Crab masters within the courts earned a nearly unmitigated failure, costing the lives and honor of several talented Yasuki samurai. Before the project was entirely scrapped Yasuki Mitsunari proposed to make a new attempt focusing on money and commerce. The methods of strong-arming used by heimin moneylenders were adopted to use against samurai with great success. Over time, his disciples eventually became known as the Extortionists. [2]

Crane Time[]

In the 12th century, the temporary merging of the Yasuki back into the Crane during the Four Winds era spread the ways of the moneylenders. [3]

Colonies[]

At the end of the 12th century, the Colonies created new opportunities for the Extortionists, since everyone there needed money and the distance from Imperial authority made intimidation and blackmail much more effective. [4]
