When Masayo was born, daughter of a Dragon warrior and a Phoenix shugenja, Yamakaze saw a natural affinity and became enraptured by her. After several years, an avalanche roared down from the mountain and killed Masayo's parents. Yamakaze saved the infant, and the peasants raised her since her parent’s passing. When Masayo was a 12 year old she was found by Miya Bunji, an Imperial Herald and mapmaker, who took the child under his care. [1]
