Yún Fēng Guó, the Kingdom of Clouds, or the Land of Four Rivers, was a gaijin nation, past the Great Northern Mountains of Rokugan. [1] Yún Fēng Wén was the language of their people. [2] Spirit Jade Archers were their dinstictive military unit and the valley of Xiē Lóng Gǔ it most heavily guarded place. [3] Dao, a broad saber, was brought to Rokugan from these lands. Guandao was the name for the weapon known as the Rokugani Bisentō. [4]

Appearance[]

Yún Fēng Guó was said to be a maze of spire-like mountains that punctuated a misty sky. It was a land rich in otherworldly gems and glistening rivers that carried a current of peculiar magic. [5] This nation thrived in towering stone fortresses carved from mountain spires. No great army had ever breached the mountain borders of Yún Fēng Guó and lived to tell the tale. An intricate smoke signal system could alert the centermost mountain of an attack at the border within minutes. Many foreign powers attempted heists to capture Yún Fēng Guó's most precious natural resource, spirit jade, a potent deterrent of demons and other evil creatures. Tiān Shān was its capital. A vast array of glittering gemstones laid nestled in hidden pockets throughout caves and mountain temples, which were sold and traded to other nations. The unrivaled potency of potions made by the Yún Fēng Guó people was due to the inherent magical properties of the river water that flowed just west of Tiān Shān. Some have called Yún Fēng Guó the Land of Four Rivers, but it was this river that is most significant. [1]

Tian Guo[]

Tian Guo was the heavenly territory of these lands, which was ruled by a Lord whose name was not known before the dawn of the Emerald Empire. This Lord was encountered by Lady Sun when she was exploring the far reaches of the Heavens. Lady Sun was the wife of Lord Moon, but her heart had been never earnestly won by him. She bore two children with him. The first, she gave the name Togashi to conceal his parentage from Lord Moon. The second, her lover requested to be named Fu Leng after the tongue of his people. When Lady Sun revealed the name of her youngest son to Lord Moon, he raged and sealed their Heavens from the Heavens beyond so Lady Sun would never be able to see her lover again. The Heavens and mortal lands of the two countries remained sealed by Lord Moon's fierce action. Only the most determined travelers made the journey, and few survived to successfully cross to the other side. [5]

Contact with Rokugan[]

A natural pass through the mountains within the Badger territory led to the Yobanjin territories and, beyond that, the Land of Four Rivers. [6] Before the fall of the Kami the language employed characters derived from the script of the Land of Four Rivers along with elements of other local languages. [7] It was said that a counsel of traveling scholars from these land adviced a local ruler of the place that predated Kyūden Asako. Some of the earliest foundation stones were marked with the words and motifs of that distant land. [8] It was said that the Kami Togashi sought out experts in the Kihō arts, journeying far to the north to train with masters of this tradition in these lands. [9] Yún Fēng Guó developed a tunnel to allow passage through the worst of the mountain wall, but it was constantly plagued by deadly, gigantic insects and strange, supernatural voids. [1]
