Utaku Kamoko was the commander of the Battle Maidens of the Unicorn Clan. [1] Reiko was her warhorse. [2]
Blood Feud[]
Kamoko was a fiery warrior of the Unicorn Clan. She might not be able to leash her hatred for the Lion Clan, whom murdered her mother [3] Utaku Kumi in 1113. Her mother had slain five Lion samurai in her final breath, and Kamoko wielded her daishō ever since. [2] Kamoko sought revenge against the Commander of the Lion assailants, Matsu Agetoki. [4]
Lion-Unicorn Rift[]
After the return of the Unicorn to Rokugan they were engaged with the Lion regarding the property of the southernmost ancestral lands of the Ki-Rin. After three years working toward a peace with the Lion Clan, her Lady Shinjo Altansarnai had brokered a treaty. The Unicorn Clan Champion had to marry Ikoma Anakazu, the Ikoma Daimyo, and the Unicorn had to gift a herd of steeds as a dowry. Altansarnai was surprised when learned that by Ikoma custom, the wife had to take the husband's name and join his lands. Kamoko considered it a Lion's trick and disliked the arrangement. Eventually Altansarnai decided to break the treaty after a meeting with Asako Akari, who had been forced to dissolve her marriage with Anakazu in order he might marry again. The Unicorn would suffer a great loss of honor that might lead to war. [5] Kamoko rode all the way to Otosan Uchi, charged with delivering Altansarnai's decision directly to the Emperor himself. In the Forbidden City she met Ide Tadaji, their ambassador, who decide first to visit the Imperial Herald Miya Satoshi, announcing him unnoficcially these news before they were publicy delivered in the Imperial Court. Escalating Tensions[]
After Shinjo Shono recaptured Hisu Mori Mura, Altansarnai ordered Kamoko to join her Battle Maidens to their regulars and lead the joint force south across the river into the Lion lands. Her offensive should keep the Lion too occupied to threaten Unicorn lands, and her force would prove too mobile for the Lion armies to destroy. [6] Kamoko led the riders of the Higashi Kaze Company south along the Three Sides River to keep the Lion safely out of Unicorn lands. [7] After Onon Village was taken by the Lion, Kamoko's unit was moved to discourage the Lion from stealing more of their villages. Eventually her forces timely arrived to defeat Lion assailants who had attacked a Crane diplomatic caravan. Kamoko sent her battle sister Utaku Ichika to escort Doji Shizue to Far Traveler Castle. [8]
Figthing the Usurpers[]
In the 18th day of the Month of Hida an assembled army of Crane, Lion, Phoenix, Scorpion, and Unicorn samurai assaulted Otosan Uchi, which had been seized by the usurper Bayushi Shoju, who had announced his allegiance with the Shadowlands. The capital was defended by the Imperial Legions led by Ikoma Ujiaki and the Army of the Rising Waves led by Mirumoto Hitomi. Kamoko found that hes nemesis, Matsu Agetoki, was on her same side among the Lion army. [4]
