Tsuru's Legion was the elite heavy cavalry unit of the Crab Clan armies.
Cavalry Unit[]
The Legion was formed by Hida Tsuru, brother of Hida Kisada. It was formally designated the Second Legion of the Reserve Army. Tsuru turned the cavalry from a neglected and scorned part of the Crab military into a prestigious posting. [1] In addition to running down Shadowlands forces that made it past the Kaiu Wall, the Legion served the Crab in ordinary warfare. Since Tsuru's death the Legion had been led by Hida Yasamura, Hida Kuroda and Kisada. [2] Eventually Tsuru's Legion became a semi-independent organization, a strike force used by Crab Clan Champions whenever needed, standing outside of the structure of the Crab reserve army. [3]
Stable[]
The unit's barracks were built within Kyuden Hida, and attached to them was an exceptionally large and well-maintained stable. [4] The Legion rode only the largest, strongest of the Rokugani steeds, or half-breeds from the Unicorn herds. [5]
Fighting the Scorpion[]
In 1169 the legion led by Kisada fought in the Crab-Scorpion War. [4]
Destroyer War[]
In 1173 the small but fierce cavalry unit were part of the Rokugani forces who confronted the Destroyers in the Battle of Kyuden Ashinagabachi. [6]
