Tsume no Doji Kotonoha was captain of the guard of Kyotei Castle under the rule of Tsume Takashi. She was responsible for security within the castle and for Lord Takashi himself. Kotonoha was physically built like an ox and had a personality that was not far off that mark, either. She was no nonsense, painfully honest and forthright. [1] Kotonoha was a bit of a folk hero, and was far more active in dispatching the bandits disrupting the area than her lord Takashi. Kotonoha met Utaku Azami when she aided her against a group of bandits marauding the Golden Valley, and the pair of them journeyed for some time dealing with these ill-mannered ruffians. Azami considered her a close and trustworthy friend. [2]
