Tonbo Manaka was the Dragonfly Clan Champion when the Lion Clan attempted to destroy the Dragonfly in 1158. The Lion still held a grudge for the insult the Dragonfly had given them centuries ago, and used the alliance with the Phoenix in the Dragon-Phoenix War to launch an attack on Kyuden Tonbo. Manaka was able to save his Clan from destruction thanks to Tonbo Euiko, who had sensed the Clan's impending destruction and was able to warn him in time. Manaka sent most of the people of his clan away before the attack, including his son Tonbo Dayu, but Kyuden Tonbo was still destroyed. [1]
