Togashi Yokuni was the Enlightened, Master of the High House of Light, and Champion of the Dragon Clan. [1]

Appearance[]

Yokuni was a towering figure encased in ancient armor and flowing silks, a sentinel of pine green and gold. [2] His armor was of antique design, with a separate panel to cover the right-hand side of his body. His face had never seen, covered by a helmet and a trademark mempō [3] that completely obscured his face. He lived in a remote set of chambers connected to the rest of the High House of Light by only a single gate. Yokuni rarely appeared in public and he conducted most of his duties via messengers. [4] The armor worn by Togashi Yokuni was a nemuranai, a powerful artifact intended to allow his mortal vessel to safely contain the Kami Togashi's godly power, at least for a time. [5]

Nanashi Mura[]

Nanashi Mura was asettlement populated and administered by rōnin. Yokuni decreed that the village would be established in this way in the year before Hantei XXXVIII was born. [6]

Heir[]

During a visit to Fukurokujin Seido, he found the boy So, a foundling left there by unknown parents. Yokuni selected the acolyte as his heir, who became the ise zumi known as Togashi Mitsu. [3]

Heresy[]

During his reign the Dragon Clan was beset by a failing birthrate and the surging popularity of a potentially dangerous and heretical sect of Shinseism, [7] the Perfect Land Sect. The leaders of the Perfect Land said the world had entered the Age of Declining Virtue, and that samurai were to blame for the Empire's many ills. [3]

Low Birth Numbers[]

Eventually the Dragon began to dwindle with every passing year. The problem had crept up on them for a century or more, before the Kitsuki family noticed it. The Dragon were not having enough children. [3]

The Rising Wave[]

As other Champions of the Dragon, Yokuni had inherited some measure of their Kami's foresight. During an audience with the Mirumoto Daimyo Mirumoto Masashige he had the vision of a rising wave, rising up to strike the land, devastation, with the Imperial Capital Otosan Uchi laid waste; countless lives lost. He sent orders to prepare the Dragon bushi, the Dragon must move beyond their borders at last, [3] to aid the Prince. [8] At the command of Mirumoto Hitomi and accompanied by Togashi Mitsu, Yokuni sent the Army of the Rising Wave to Otosan Uchi, [9] crossing the Drowned Merchant River into Lion territory. [10] Yokuni also sends a samurai from the Kitsuki family to Otosan Uchi who would investigate the intrigues of the Forbidden City. [11] When the Army of the Rising Wave arrived to Otosan Uchi, they learned that Hantei the Thirty-Eighth had died, and the Emerald Champion Akodo Toturi was missing. The Ruby Champion Agasha Sumiko ordered Hitomi to bring the Army inside the city to guard the Imperial Palace. [8]

The Battle of Cherry Blossom Snow[]

After receiving a vision warning him that the Dragon would be needed in the south, Togashi Yokuni led a small but mighty cadre of Tattooed Monks. [12] After a journey of several weeks they arrived to the shores of the Cherry Blossom Snow Lake, where they joined the assembled forces of the Crab led by Hida Sukune, several Minor Clans, and the Phoenix army led by Shiba Tsukune, who would stand against the Shadowlands army led by Akuma no Oni. The next day the Battle of Cherry Blossom Snow began, and the Rokugani forces were bolstered by the arrival of the Crane army led by Daidoji Uji. [2] Bayushi Yojiro, new Champion of his clan, joined the command group. He offered the Yogo Jitte, awakened by the revered magistrate Soshi Saibankan himself. Among its many qualities was the ability to reveal the lies of the Shadowlands, so, if it was brought close to Akuma no Oni, it would be forced to reveal itself. Yokuni accepted the jitte, but in return Yojiro accepted that Togashi and Kitsuki advisors shall keep watch over the affairs of the Scorpion to vouch for their sincerity, tarnished by Shoju's actions. [13]

Death[]

In the 14th day of the Month of Togashi the Battle of Cherry Blossom Snow began, [13] and Togashi used the Yogo Jitte to force Akuma to reveal on the field. He confronted the Oni Lord and died, sacrificing his own life to win the day. Yokuni only regretted that he could not prepare Mitsu for the burden of becoming the Dragon Champion. [14]
