Early Years[]
When child she was known as Yanai, the daughter of a Aika, a former yōjimbō who became rōnin when she refused to obey an order. At the age of eight, Yanai saw a monk and decide she would become a member of the Ise Zumi. Yanai moved to the High House of Light. [2]
Tattooed Order[]
Novice[]
As a novice Yanai learned she had had many lifetimes, such as Togashi Chiaki. Kotai was one of the many sensei who prepared her to become a member of the Tattooed Order. She was selected to sat vigil for Enshi, when he was recovering from his tattooing process, the gempuku of the ise zumi. The novice Adaki called her Little Bean. [2]
Knot Tattoo[]

Togashi Kazue
When her ceremony of age came, Yanai was tattooed by Togashi Gaijutsu, the legendary tattoo master. She selected the name of Togashi Kazue, one eternity, as her true name. She bore a storm-shrouded serpent tattoo in her right arm, which allowed her to deliver strong blows, and an abstract tattoo knot which extended from the top of the forehead to the base of her skull, a knot of lines. Abstract tattoos were very rare, and usually important. Kazue moved to Fuchi Mura with Togashi Mitsu, and there she unleashed the powers of her knot tattoo on Heidoku, a peasant who had murdered a samurai. The test revealed that the tattoo granted Enlightened Madness to the target. The first day Heidoku was mute; the second day he rumbled sentences that a peasant would not know; and the third day he began to laughter like a mad. Mitsu ordered to end Heidoku's suffering. The next day Kazue fled out of fear, full of regret. Eventually she stumbled upon Senzai, a peasant turned in a Kobukaiba, a hag of the deep woods. The yōkai attempted to kill Kazue, but the ise zumi used her special tattoo to give her a moment of kenshō, and thus repairing Senzai's broken soul. Kazue returned to the High House of Light for judgement, and her soul was purified with kiyomizu in the Garden of the Elements. She reborn as Togashi Kazue, the blessed destiny. [2]
