The Three Orders was a term used to refer to the monastic orders of the Dragon Clan. They were established by Togashi Hoshi to replace the ise zumi monks of old. [1]

Orders[]

The three families were the Hitomi, Hoshi and Togashi. [2] They were well known for their magical tattoos, their peculiar behavior, and their penchant for turning up in the most unlikely places. They sought enlightenment not only for themselves but also for those around them. [3]

Customs[]

Many Dragon peasants were unable to support their children, who quickly were adopted by the Three Orders, and raised as their members. When a member of one of the orders took a spouse, he was usually expected to leave the order. [4]

Merging into the Togashi[]

The three families were unified by Dragon Clan Champion Togashi Satsu in 1169 when he sensed a disturbance in the orders because of the divine status of two of their founders, Hoshi and Hitomi. By tattooing the members of the Hoshi and the Hitomi families he hoped to rectify the imbalances. [5]
