Temple of the Sun Goddess
The Temple of the Sun Goddes was one of the largest temple in all Rokugan, [1] and the largest in Otosan Uchi, devoted to Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess, but after Yakamo ascended it was devoted to him, the Lord Sun, as the Temple of the Sun God. [2]
Appearance[]
Located in the Ochiyo district, it was of simple construction, but the monks tended the woodwork in a way that made it glow with a light all its own, enshrouding the temple wih a golden aura. [3] Behind the temple laid the Kanshi Community, a former siege storage of the Imperial City. [4]
Tradition[]
The monks there were the epitome of the charitable, philanthropist image of the monk class. Upon the conclusion of their duties each day they moved among the heimin of the city, bringing relief to the sick and the hungry. [1]
Scorpion Coup[]
In the first day of the Scorpion Coup news of the Imperial Heir's death was spread. The monks of the temple run the huge bell to mark the passing of the boy-prince. [5] During the fourth day of the Scorpion Coup the corpse of Bayushi Dairu, the late Scorpion's heir, was arrived at the Temple of the Sun Goddess. The monks refused to allow them entry, caliming the Scorpion acts as dishonorable, and not worthy of Lady Sun consideration. They were slaughtered on the spot by the forces of Dairu's father, Bayushi Shoju. The otherwise impassive district was led directly into the fighting against the Scorpion, to exact the dishonorable act. [6]
