Taisa were often the sons or daughters of daimyos, put in that position because of their status rather than their experience. A taisa led five chui and their troops, or approximately 25,000 soldiers or cavalry. Unit size varied depending on the army and time period; each chui commanded between 100 and 8,000 troops.
