Sumō, which meant “striking one another”, was a Rokugani martial art consisting of full-contact wrestling. It was best known in Crab lands as sumai, and legend stated that its techniques were developed to wrestle demons to the ground. In later had become a popular avenue for rōnin to make money in large cities. [1] Top sumō wrestlers were honored with the sufix -zeki. [2] Sumai was very popular among the Badger Clan, holding sumai matches before important ceremonies, and the yearly Great Games had sumai as the main event. [3]

A priest drew and blessed a circle in the sand which was marked with rope. The winner of each bout was the one who threw their opponent out of the circle. [4]
