Shosuro Jocho was a bushi of the Scorpion Clan.
Family[]
Jocho was born in the Seventeenth Day, Month of the Dog, [1] son of the Governor of Ryoko Owari Toshi, Shosuro Akitada and his wife Shosuro Hyobu. He had a younger sister, Shosuro Kimi. [2]
Contradicted Demeanor[]
Jocho wore a diadem mask, so his featuress were not covered, as did most of the Scorpions. But it was another of his manipulation trickeries. [3] He was well liked by his peers, but no one called him friend. Jocho was both a cynical manipulator and a starry-eyed romantic. [2]
Commander[]
Jocho dedication to samurai discipline was unchallenged, and he was the commander of the Thunder Guard, and leader of its elite units, the Lightning Squad and the Samurai Squad. He also liked to gamble, wench and smoke opium. After the death of his father in 1115 Socho had to become the governor of the city, but he had no interest on it, and his mother Hyobu governed in his stead. He was a noble warrior and corrupt official, tireless leader and lazy sybarite. [4]
Manipulator[]
In 1122 during Iuchi Michisuna's birthday celebration Shiba Shonagon read a poem that clearly shown her love to Michisuna, but the musician did not felt the same way. Shonagon left the party with her heart broken. Jocho accompanied and seduced her. [5] When later Shonagon committed suicide Jocho wept openly at her funeral. [2]
Opium War[]
This year the Opium War began after several attacks happened on the cartel's facilities, and even his sister Kimi was kidnapped for a time by the Bayushi cartel led by Bayushi Korechika. After the Shosuro cartel's central warehouse got burned down Hyobu rescinded Korechika's license to store legal opium. Jocho and a gang of Thunder Guards were dispatched to seize the Bayushi warehouse. Jocho killed Korechika, and all the Bayushi defenders died. Surprisingly a Robai no Oni had also appeared in the fray, and before the battle ended it had fled toward the river. [6]
Aftermath[]
The Soshi cartel was nearly disappeared, the Bayushi had a new leader, Bayushi Saigo, and the Emerald Champion Doji Satsume removed Hyobu's charter to license opium farming and storage, with the acknowledgment of the Scorpion Clan Champion Bayushi Shoju, who was uneasy with Hyobu being the primary opium lord. [7]
Fugitive[]
Hyobu and her family fled when the Imperial Legions attacked Ryoko Owari led by Seppun Nakao, during the imperial retaliation after the failure of the Scorpion Coup. [8] When a ronin stalker known as Tetsuka appeared at Ryoko Owari, some said he was Jocho, but it was unconfirmed. [9]
