People |
Otomo Yamato was one of Hantei's youngest sons.
Joining the Otomo[]
Born Hantei Yamato, when his brother Hantei Genji was declared the new Emperor in 46, he renounced the Hantei name and swore fealty to the Otomo family. [1]
Yamato was the first of the Hantei's siblings to renounce his claim to the throne in the Ritual of Abdication. While Yamato did this as a gesture of respect, it became tradition for the Imperial Heir's siblings to take the name of an Imperial family rather than the Hantei name. [2]
Author[]
Yamato published the Divine Branch, [2] shortly before his death in the year 88. [3] [4]
