Doji Hime was the first wife of Hantei XVI, the Steel Chrysanthemum, becoming Otomo Hime.
Concubine[]
In 591 Hime was seduced and taken as concubine by the Emperor Hantei XVI. She was part of the discredit campaign orchestred by the Emperor against her father, the Crane Clan Champion Doji Rin, who retired to a monastery shortly after. [1]
Empress[]
Miscarriages[]
In autumn of the year 592 Hime became pregnant. In winter the Emperor married her to ensure the child was recognized as legitimate. In early spring next year she suffered a small accident in the Imperial gardens and miscarried. Okucheo personally executed the gardeners and servants in charge of that part of the Imperial Palace. In 596 Hime deliberately miscarried again, and in the next three years two miscarriages more happened. [2]
Son[]
In 600 Hime finally bore a son. Her husband had placed her under confinement and constant watch to ensure she brought a child to term. The Imperial Heir was immediately took from Hime's arms. [3]
Death[]
The Empress remained confined to her chambers thereafter, until her death in 602. [3]
