Osano-wo, was the Fortune of Fire and Thunder.

Hida's Son[]

Osano-wo was the second son of Kami Hida, and his mother was said to have been the Thunder Dragon, a patron of heroes. [1] In the thirtieth year of the War against Fu Leng Hida began to despair of the interminable war against his brother. He met a priest of the Thunder Dragon, named Hekima, who offered Hida counsel, and from her Hida drew the courage and determination of the Thunder Dragon. A year after their first meeting, Hekima bore a son, whom she named Osano-wo, and not long after, Hekima departed on a pilgrimage. Osano-wo was raised by Hida and Mashiko, his wife, amid the turnoil of war. [2]

Gempuku[]

Kaiu himself forged Chikara foe Osano-wo's gempuku, and the blade would become the ancestral sword of the Crab. [3]

Admired Brother[]

Osano-wo greatly admired his older brother, Hida Atarashi, and sought to emulate him as a mighty warrior. [2] Atarashi represented the Crab Clan on the Day of Thunder, when the Dark Lord Fu Leng was defeated. His brother died that day, but Osano-wo refused to believe it, and he made a magnificent set of armor for Atarashi. Named Kikyo, the armor remained at Hida Palace, awaiting the day his brother would return to claim it. [2]

Crab Champion[]

Osano-wo was reputed to have possessed the heroic qualities of strength, honor, and courage. While he was the Crab Clan Champion, Osano-wo led his clan against the trolls and all but obliterated that ancient race. [1]

Family[]

Osano-wo had two sons by two mothers. He named one son, Kenzan, his heir. His other son, Kaimetsu-Uo, left to found the Mantis Clan in the Islands of Spice and Silk. [1]

Order of Osano-wo[]

The Order of Osano-wo, the most martial order of the Brotherhood of Shinsei, were devoted to him. [4] Late in his life, Osano-wo founded a martial arts school to pass on his considerable martial knowledge. He built a fine dōjō using timber he cut himself from the forest. He lined the walls with his favorite weapons and armor. Then, he waited for students. The very first was a diminutive old monk, Tamadora. She had no prior combat experience but had to travel frequently, and she wanted to learn to defend herself. Usual weapons were awkward for her short stature, so he suggested boxing, which turned out to be the correct choice, as she could duck and flank his massive frame easily. Osano-wo taught Tamadora how to use the hard parts of her body to strike the soft parts of his. She became the second headmaster of Osano-wo's dōjō after his death, expanding the school into a monastery, [5] Shinden Kasai, on the Plains of Thunder. [1]

Fortune[]

By Emperor's will Osano-wo was elevated to the Fortune of Fire and Thunder after his death. [6] He was worshipped by those who wished relief from natural disasters. [7] The Mantis built one of the two major temples to Osano-wo, Shinden Sandā in Inazuma Province. [1]
