Ofushikai
Ofushikai, the Soul of Shiba, [1] was the ancestral sword of the Phoenix Clan, wielded by every Phoenix Clan Champion since the dawn of the Empire. [2]
Creation[]
The term Ofushikai was a Ningyo word. It was forged by Tsumaru, a Ningyo princess, who gifted the sword to the Kami Shiba on the day of their wedding. [3]
Appearance[]
Ofushikai was displayed resting on a cypress stand. The sheath was carved from a single piece of wood with detailed feathers, having glowing crimson and burnished gold braziers. Its manta-skin handle had a pearl set, with ribbons of silk woven around its pommel. Its tsuba handguard was made of curved bronze wings. The ancient sword lacked the drastic curve of a true katana and the benefits of modern smithing. [2]
Abilities[]
Tsumaru used metals and techniques from her kingdom beneath the sea to forge the sword, which was stronger beneath the waves and allowed its wielder to breathe water as if it were air. [3] Shiba entrusted his sword to the care of Asako on the Day of Thunder. When Shiba passed, his spirit returned to the blade, where he dwells still, not in Tengoku with his siblings, but in the sword that guided his clan. Ofushikai was haunted by the spirits of all past Phoenix Clan Champions. With time, the wielder could access the memories of all of the clan champions haunting the sword, which transformed the wielder into a masterful warrior. However, it tool years to unlock Ofushikai's full potential. The Phoenix Champion could call the blade into their hand from any distance. [4]
Selection of the Phoenix Champion[]
Ofushikai was the way to know the next Phoenix Clan Champion. When it was required to choose a new Champion, many representatives of the Shiba family were gathered, and the ceremony was presided by the Elemental Masters, accompanied by their favored apprentices. The sword was offered by the Master of the Void to a Shiba member, who in turn passed it to the next one, until Ofushikai jutted out from the sheath, exposing one inch of flawless blade, when it was wielded by the proper one. The rest of the Phoenix accepted the selected as their new Champion, who knelt before the Isawa and swore to serve. [2] Ofushikai's choice was not related to bloodline, prestige, skill, or even experience, the Shiba chosen was forged just as the sword was: through harsh trial and gentle guidance. [4]
Akuma no Oni[]
Ofushikai was the blade wielded by Shiba Tsukune to kill Akuma no Oni in the Battle of Cherry Blossom Snow Lake. [5]
