Please note: This article is about the fertile lands in the Naishou province. For other uses of the term, please see Nobu (disambiguation).

The Nobu Valley was the fertile lands in the Naishou province which were first settled by the Takanobu tribe. [1] Two-thirds of the province's population lives there. [2]

Landscape[]

The western part of the valley was an open rolling plain, where rice and grain was cultivated, and the Inari Seido was built. [3] Any area between the Taru Mountains and the Kawa Forest was called “the Nobu valley”, the drainage basin of the Itochu River. There was located Toshi no Naishou, the only real city in the province and its capital. Many other villages held a single samurai in residence, to provide protection and direction. [4] The village of Koso Mura was located within its limits near the Taru Mountains. [5]

Legends[]

Nobu Valley had many ghost stories, implying yorei, ghosts with tragic histories offering a morals lesson, told by fathers to their children. Exorcists had sometimes passed through the area to banish errant souls, and moonless nights were particularly conducive to otherworldy apparitions. [6]
