Sleeping Mountain was formed by ash and lava, around a tremendous crater which had become a lake. This mountain was located on a small island near the City of Lightning. It was a sacred place to the Mantis, and small shrines dotted the hillside above the water. When earthquakes rocked the island, the peasants were often known to say that it was the snore of the great Osano-Wo. [1]
