Moto Onshigawa was a Tar-khan of the Moto Clan in the 7th century.
Death[]
Moto Khatalan was the beautiful daughter of Moto Chai, and swore that she would only marry a man who could best her in a foot race, and who was willing to wager ten fine horses on the race. Khatalan handily won dozens of races and collected hundreds of horses. Onshigawa came and wagered one-hundred fine horses. Onshigawa nearly beat Khatalan, but fell into a ravine and died. [1]
Vassal family[]
Khatalan brought all the horses she had won to her lord and gave them to him in exchange for her freedom, that being her plan all along. The daimyo was impressed and gave Khatalan the honor of creating a vassal family. Khatalan named her family the Onshigawa family in honor of her brave competitor. [2]
