Miya Akate was a mapmaker follower of the first Miya. His maps of Crab lands formed the foundation of the Imperial maps of southern Rokugan, and he had enjoyed much success in the courts for his efforts. [1]

Akate led a team of Hiruma explorers through the Twilight Mountains. They reached the top of a high peak, which they called Kitai (Hope), and from there they saw another mountain of similar height. Akate led them across to the next mountain, leaving behind a single man who had been injured in a rock slide. This Crab was the last man who saw Akate and the rest of the team, who never returned from the second peak, which was called Kaikon (Regret). [1]
