Mirumoto family (TCG)

Clan: Dragon Clan (TCG)
Founded: Unknown
Daimyo: Mirumoto Masashige

The Mirumoto were a family of the Dragon Clan. [1]

Niten[]

The Mirumoto family produced some of the best swordsmen in Rokugan, practicing a difficult style known as niten, “Two Heavens,” wielding their katana and wakizashi simultaneously. Kakita duelists had rivaled the Mirumoto's since the earliest days of the Empire. [2]

Duty[]

The largest family of their clan, the Mirumoto oversaw the management and duties of the Dragon Clan, allowing the Togashi monks to pursue their paths on the way to Enlightenment. [3] The Mirumoto represented the Dragon Clan to the rest of the Empire, a role they eventually came to share with the more gregarious Kitsuki. The early Mirumoto generally adopted the gruff, straightforward nature of their founder, which gave the Mirumoto a reputation for being inconsistent, reclusive, and generally difficult to deal with. Over time the Mirumoto became progressively more savvy in the ways of politics and social niceties. With the rise of the Kitsuki family, who assumed many of the social and political duties of the Dragon, the Mirumoto were seen as the military arm of the Dragon Clan, particularly renowned as duelists. The other main responsibility of the Mirumoto was administration, examining the Clan's day-to-day operations, such as trade, taxation, or infrastructure maintenance. [4]

Religious Perspectives[]

The Mirumoto placed a particular emphasis on Shinseism, in a very practical, almost prosaic way. They took the Tao of Shinsei in military endeavors, giving the Tao much the same weight as any other martial treatise. All their dōjō haf the same three words prominently emblazoned in their training halls—“Neither Will I”, the words spoken to Togashi by Shinsei. Before graduating from a Mirumoto dōjō, a student must spend three days in a remote and wild place in contemplation of these three words, then encapsulate their meaning in a poem. [5]

Lands of the Mirumoto[]

The Mirumoto lands were hospitable, consisting of four provinces collectively known as the Lowlands, they extended south from the Great Wall of the North Mountains, in rolling, hilly terrain. The bulk of the clan's samurai and commoners lived there. Most of the Dragon Army was stationed there. In these Lowlands the Dragon conducted most of their trade, commerce, and political interaction with the rest of the Empire. The commercial and political heart of the Dragon Clan was Shiro Mirumoto.
