Mirumoto Bakane was a soldier who was part of the local garrison of Shiro Hebi, a castle of the Colonies. [1]

He was killed behind the Inn of the Brass Fan, stabbed in the back. Tamori Tamanako, a shugenja passing through the city, claimed she had witnessed the assassination, and reported to Retsu. Her testimony was instrumental to arrest Gopti, a baldy Ivinda who had recently arrived to the town with his family. The local lord Mirumoto Kokure ordered them hanged. Eventually Tamanako was found guilty, and she confessed he had been blackmailed by Doji Chonitsu into murdering Bakane and pinning the blame on Gopti. [2]
