The Merchant Quarter was the heart of Ryokō Owari Toshi. On its east border was the Gate of Condescension, the entrance to the Noble Quarter. [1] It was a heavily populated quarter and received shipments of goods from three great wharves. [2] The largest and most populous of the city's districts, thrived on the other side of the River of Gold across from the Fishers' Quarter. Dominated by their three wharfs, it was home to many residential neighborhoods. Merchants and lower-ranking samurai lived there. One of the city's few public parks, built in the honor of the Fortune of Wealth, could be there, along with Shomon's Dojo. [3]
