Matsu Mitsuko was a gunsō of the Lion Clan. [1]
Shinjo Shono[]
When Mitsuko was fourteen she spent some time with Shinjo Shono in her uncle's estate, and romantic feelings developed towards him. [2]
Death[]
In 1123 [3] the Lion had brokered a treaty with the Unicorn Clan, being Mitsuko part of it with her betrothal to Shinjo Shono, currently heir to his clan. [4] Eventually the Unicorn did not honored the treaty and Matsu Tsuko ordered Mitsuko to seize Hisu Mori Mura, [1] which was among the named villages to be traded in the broken treaty. Mitsuko was the commander of the Lion forces, killing the enemy commander Utaku Hisako in a duel. Shono led the Unicorn counterattack, to demonstrate that his personal feelings could not be leveraged against his clan. [4] Mitsuko was personally defeated by Shono, and her forces killed to the last man. It gave the Lion ground to claim the Emperor his permission to wage full war against the Unicorn, as devised by her Lord Matsu Gohei. [5]
