Isawa Kokei was a shugenja of the Phoenix Clan who married the Matsu Daimyo Matsu Ketsui becoming Matsu Kokei.
Mocked Suitor[]
Matsu Ketsui, who had been married and had two sons, was notorious for her open conflicts with the Lion Clan Champion Ikoma Tsanuri, often ignoring Tsanuri's orders in battle. An angered Tsanuri arranged for a political marriage between the Matsu Daimyo and the pacifistic and young Kokei. When he visited Shiro Matsu to meet Ketsui, she turned him away with mocking laughter. Though he had been deeply hurt by Ketsui's rejection, Isawa Kokei had also fallen deeply in love with the Matsu Battle Maiden after their first meeting. [1]
Married[]
After the War Against Shadow Ketsui requested Kokei to marry her. He gladly forgave her for spurning him, and took the Matsu name after their wedding. The couple had a daughter, Matsu Satomi, and Kokei was a father to the other two Ketsui's sons. To the older son, Matsu Nimuro, Kokei instilled into him a great appreciation for literature and spirituality. [2]
Death[]
In 1149 Kokei fell ill and died during a harsh winter. [1]
