The Legion of the Dead was a force of spirits assembled by the Fortune of Heroes, Goemon. Their objective was initially to guard against Bloodspeaker incursions into Yomi, and to offer guidance to mortal heroes during the turbulent times after the Rain of Blood. With the Dragon of Thunder without an oracle in the mortal world, Toturi I selected Goemon to help fill the role. As a former mortal, Goemon did not have the same restrictions placed on him as an Oracle.
Eventually, the Legion of the Dead was drawn into conflict with the Legion of Blood over the newly forming Realm of Thwarted Destiny.
Events[]
As the two forces initially battled for control over the newly forming realm in 1166, Isawa Tsuke released a massive explosion intending to stop the First Oni, but it also disrupted the realm and knocked everyone in it into private memories of critical choices in their lives. The realm was testing each of them, to see if they would embrace their destines or reject them. The realm could become a place where those who failed their destinies could repeat their failures for eternity or a place where those who failed could embrace their fates and find redemption. [1] Afterward, the Legion remained to guard the realm from any intruders. [2]
Connection with Ningen-do[]
The realm which had been created by the events at the Oblivion's Gate had a connection to the Gate, which after its destruction in 1133 had been closed to the rest of the realms. The soul of Naka Kuro guessed the possibility to send a soul of a dead hero back to Rokugan, to battle Iuchiban. [1]
