The Kumitae Tournament was an unarmed contest held in 1168 by the Mantis Yoritomo Okitsugu to gift Kumitae, a treatise on the martial arts written by Shinsei found by Yoritomo Buntaro, to its winner. The tournament was won by Hida Nichie after Yoritomo Suketsune withdrew in the final round to honor Nichie, who had discovered that the ronin contender Masami was a tainted Daigotsu's follower. However, Suketsune really forfeited because he, Buntaro and Hachino had bet that Nichie, an underdog, would win the tournament. [1]
