Kosuga city 2

Kosuga district

The Kosuga district was the one of the outer districts of Otosan Uchi, along the northern banks of the River of the Sun where it joined the Golden Sun Bay. It was an amalgam of two sub-districts, Kosuga and Yatoshin district. Most of Otosan Uchi's port trade occurred in the Kosuga district, and the area was well-maintained and highly populated. Even at night, heimin could be seen carrying torches leading workers to their jobs, and the area was considered to be middle-classed. There was also a small ronin population. [1] It was also known as the South Dock district. [2]

Division[]

South Dock district was divided during the reign of Emperor Hantei XXXVIII, when a ronin saved the Emperor's child and was given the control of the sub-district called the Yatoshin. The leader of the Yatoshin reported to the South Dock lord. [2]

Scorpion Coup[]

In 1123 during the Scorpion Coup the Kosuga district was not taken by the Scorpion in the first days of assault. [3] The district was liberated by the combined armies of the clans by dawn of the fifth day. [4] Little damage was inflicted upon the district, and it would become the cornerstone of the city's reconstruction after the coup. [5]

Merging the Tsai district[]

For many weeks following the Coup, the Tsai district was unoccupied, abandoned, and without leadership after its former governor Bayushi Tsai fled, a collaborator during the coup. Ultimately, the Kosuga district consumed it, and a new advisor was placed of its day-to-day operations. [6] The new district was named by the former sub-district, Yatoshin district. [7]

Notable Locations[]

The South Dock flooded easily, having houses on the shore built up on stilts and dry-docked ships. The district was dotted with houses of both entertainment and rest for wealthy merchants. [2]
