Kitsu Yū was warrior of the Lion Clan, with a direct ancestry to the ancient kitsu. [1] Akodo Heihachi was her old friend. [2]

Demeanor and Abilities[]

Yū showed no ability as a shugenja, and she became a strong, devout, and honorable warrior who was respected by her fellow soldiers. [3]

Battle of Snow Plain[]

In 820 Yū was an advisor to the general Matsu Sakura in the Battle of Snow Plain. During the first three days she occasionally experienced dizzines and headaches. She prayed to her ancestors on the third day of battle, and her cry invoked the spirits of her ancestors, who charged forth into battle beside the Lion Clan soldiers. Yū collapsed when a spear stroke her, and the ghosts faded. On the fourth and last day of battle, Kitsu Yū summoned again a ghostly army to help Lion claim final victory over the Unicorn. The victory was finally earned by the Unicorn due to political maneuvers. [4]

Death[]

Yū would not live long enough to see that her discovery at Snow Plain, the invocation Ancestral Summons, led to the creation of the secretive Golden Lantern Dōjō. [3] Yū wrote a death poem which was stored in the Kitsu Archives. [5]

I gave my name and lost my honor in the snow.
The sting is in the words that children learn,
Come spring, the world changes again.
-Kitsu Yū's death poem [5]

Ancestor[]

Yū became a sorei, or honored ancestor. In the 12th century Yū noticed that a peasant maiden was one of her descendants, and intervened in her adoption by Kitsu Taigen, who took the peasant as Kitsu Ayako. [1] The official records of the battle were wronged, and she had waited generations for an opportunity to correct them. [6]
