Kitsu Shizuka was the head monk of the Temple of Listening Ghosts. She had golden eyes, indicating her kitsu ancestors, and embodied the wisdom and intelligence of the kitsu. Ikoma Eiji was a visiting historian who wished to live in the temple in the hope of learning more about the history of the Kitsu, and he petitioned Shizuka for help, but she only told him to listen. In 1123 a group of samurai investigated the complaints of villagers regarding horses being killed. They found the monk Shu as the culprit, who had went into the mountains and never returned. He had been possesed by an evil spirit, and was brought to Shizuka, who helped him to overcome the spirit. [1]
