Kitsu (TCG)

Kitsu Warrior

The Kitsu were one of the Five Ancient Races that once dominated the lands that would be known as Rokugan. [1]

Appearance and Demeanor[]

Kitsu were a noble and intelligent warrior pride of yōkai, feline beings resembled a cross between human beings and lions, with thick manes and golden eyes. [2]

Decay[]

After the Five Ancient Races' empires rose and fell, and left no record, another race, the Naga, dwelled in the lands that later became Rokugan. [1] These races resided in disparate corners of Rokugan, shadows of their former selves but as dangerous as ever. [3]

Akodo[]

The Kami Akodo waged war on the kitsu, thinking them beasts, and only when the kitsu learned to speak Rokugani did he understand and ask forgiveness. To atone for almost exterminating their race, he offered them a place in his clan, and the surviving kitsu married his children, and founded a new family, the Kitsu family. [4] Most of these last kitsu used their shapeshifting abilities to take on human form and married into the clan. [2]

Guardians of Yomi[]

Most of the Kitsu dwelled in Yomi, for Akodo pleaded with his mother Amaterasu on their behalf, and Lady Sun offered them a place of honor as the guardians of the Realm of Blessed Ancestors against any threats the Fortunes could not foresee. And sometimes, this responsibility brought kitsu of old back to the Mortal Realm for a time. Some shugenja with kitsu lineage could call their ancestors down from Yomi, becoming possessed by a kitsu spirit for a time. [2] The Tomb of the Five was built beside the Keep of the Kitsu to honor their ancestors. [5]
