The Kings of Hell were nine loyal servants of Emma-Ō, [1] who accompanied the Fortune and his mazoku when they descended from Tengoku to reconquer the world below. They seized the levels now known as Meido, Gaki-dō, and Tōshigoku from the forces of Jigoku, becoming Emma-Ō the ruler of Meido. [2] Emma-Ō had empowered these beings to judge souls with his own authority, to promote souls to subordinate judge positions, and to command his servants with the same clout that he did. [3] Each King of Hell commanded a pyramid of clerks, servants, warriors, and bailiffs, all drawn from the mazoku and sorei. [4]
Fell of the Kami[]
When Fu Leng fell from the Heavens he touched down the Real of Mortals. A dark flame of jelousy and resentment burned within Fu Leng's heart, a beacon to the evil powers imprisoned within the underworld. A sinister fate sent him crashing deep into the earth, all the way down to Jigoku, causing the Kings of Hell to lose control over their wards. [5]
