Kikyo

Kikyo was an armor forged by Hida Osano-wo for his lost brother Hida Atarashi, and wielded by Hida Chuku.

Forged

Hida Atarashi, the Kami Hida's elder son, had represented the Crab Clan on the Day of Thunder, when the Dark Lord Fu Leng was defeated. Atarasi died that day, but Osano-wo refused to believe it, and he made a magnificent set of armor for his older brother. Named Kikyo, the armor remained at Hida Palace, awaiting the day Atarashi would return to claim it.

Mask of Iuchiban

For unknown reasons on of the Four Masks of Iuchiban was hidden inside Kikyo's mempō.

Lost

In the 10th century, a Crab Clan General named Hida Chuku donned the armor and led a great army into the Shadowlands, intent on ending its vile threat to Rokugan once and for all. The army, Chuku, and the armor were never seen since that day.

Recovered

In 1123 the Nezumi Rememberer Ros'ku found the armor in the Cave of Bloody Ghost Fire within the Shadowed Swamps of the Shinomen Forest. Chuku's army instead to enter the Shadowlands had moved to that area and vanished there. The nezumi removed the sode from the armor, and the ghost's of Chuku's army rose as a gashadokuro, a construct of bone and malice was the embodied anger and resentment of those who died unknown, which began to haunt the Tattered Ear. The nezumi requested the Crab their aid, and an expedition led by Hida Sukune managed to recover the rest of the armor, and commanded the massive demon to remain there, never to live that place. Kikyo returned to the Crab lands to rest in the halls of Hida Palace, but the mempō had been diverted by the Kuni Daimyō Kuni Yori, who destroyed it to take the hidden mask inside it. The gashadokuro was enchained to Kikyo, and it would obey to anyone who donned the armor.
