Kaya was a slow-growing Rokugani tree with a hard, golden-tinged wood, used by the Crane to make their summer chopsticks. Kaya was used for summer both because of its sunshiny color and because it was the favored wood for go boards, a subtle reminder that summer was the season of war. [1] Kaya took centuries to properly mature and the steadily increasing popularity of Go threatened to eradicate the tree entirely. [2]
