Nemuranai |
The Katana of Fire was one of the Elemental Nemuranai created by Iuchi Yogosha and Asako Shingon in 1127 with the Oracles of Light guidance during the Clan War. [1] [2]
Appearance and Abilities[]
The Katana of Fire had the hilt wrapped in scarlet threads and the saya inscribed with symbols of elemental fire. When the sword was drawn from its sheath flames erupted, burning more brightly in the presence of Tainted or dishonorable foes. [3] It was a fine katana that inflicted an additional fire damage, and the wielder might cast the spell Fires From Within, despite he was not a shugenja. [4]
History[]
Crafting[]
For months Yogosha and Shingon sought out the perfect location for each Elemental Weapon to be crafted. [5] They found the correct place in a valley near the Castle of the Faithful Bride. [6] For days, Shingon coaxed the kami to occupy the item, slowly infusing it with the essence of an element. Then Yogosha would use his knowledge of Meishodo to erode the object's true name while Shingon contained the kami. The two worked in tandem to craft a katana, a set of armor, a gunsen, a yari, and the last, a mempo, the one of the Void element. To finish the creation of the last nemuranai, they both concluded they would have to give their lives. With that sacrifice the balance was restored between dark, the Elemental Terrors, and light, the Elemental Nemuranai. [7]
Delivered[]
In 1127 Shiba Ujimitsu entrusted a group of samurai to deliver the Katana to Shiba Tsukune, a gunso of the Phoenix armies aiding the Crane in their war. They were attacked by a spawn of the Water Elemental Terror, Mizu no Oni, in the Doji plains, and used the katana against the demon. They later delivered the unpackaged katana to Tsukune. [8]
Disappeared[]
In Tsukune's hands, the blade claimed the lives of countless Shadowlands spawn during the Second Day of Thunder. The katana disappeared from her possession shortly after. [9]
Resting Place[]
Somehow the Katana re-appeared, and in 1169 it was donated to the Temple of the Eight Guardians, resting in the temple devoted to the Fire Dragon. [10]
