People |
Kakita Yoshi was the Voice of Honor, Esteemed Imperial Chancellor, and Noble Daimyō of the Kakita. [1]
Kyūden Kakita's Curse[]
An unexpected siege by the Lion Clan led to the gates of Kyūden Kakita being closed when Kakita Yoshi, was born. As a result, to avoid the curse issued to the palace centuries ago, he followed the path of the courtier, and he refused to even touch a blade. [2]
Family[]
Yoshi had a brother, Kakita Toshimoko, and a sister, [3] Kakita Teinko, [4] who eventually married with the Crane Clan Champion Doji Satsume. His sister threw herself on the Sea of the Sun Goddess from the cliffs near Kyuden Doji, and some blamed Satsume had driven her to it. Satsume, who had stubbornly kept the clan championship for years even as he held the office of Emerald Champion, reluctantly passed her the mantle, at the urging of Kakita Toshimoko and Kakita Yoshi. [3] Despite it, Yoshi regarded Satsume as a strong and demanding leader. [5] Yoshi married with Kakita Barahime, and had a son, Kakita Shinta. [6]
Station[]
Yoshi was eventually appointed as Imperial Chancellor under the reign of Hantei the Thirty-Eighth. [7] Kakita Nene was his personal yōjimbō. [8]
Denying Crab Request[]
The Yasuki Daimyo Yasuki Taka requested the Imperial Court to send rice, jade and the Imperial Legions to support the Crab effort in the Kaiu Wall. [9] The Emperor did not meet Taka personally, sending Yoshi in his stead, to deny the requested support. [10]
Emperor's Death[]
In 1123 Yoshi was informed by one of his agents that the Emperor had died, and that the event was silenced for a time by the Imperial Advisor Bayushi Kachiko. Shortly after Doji Kuwanan reported Yoshi that he had found a letter intercepted by Satsume before his death, a letter from Kuwanan's sister, the Crane Clan Champion Doji Hotaru, addressed to Kachiko. Hotaru wrote of her hatred for her father, and that she wished to leave the Crane lands behind and be with Kachiko. It seemed Doji Hotaru was working with Kachiko, whose goal had long been to undermine Crane influence. Kuwanan swore to challenge his sister's right to be Crane Champion, and Yoshi offered his allegiance to him. [11] With the Lion Clan Champion Akodo Toturi vanished, the acting Emerald Champion Agasha Sumiko appointed the Scorpion Clan Champion Bayushi Shoju as the Imperial Regent, as it was written by Toturi in an Imperial Edict sealed by the late Emperor himself, [12] until Prince Hantei Daisetsu came to age. The late Emperor had chosen his younger son over Hantei Sotorii, who would retire to a monastery. [8]
Imperial Regent[]

Undermining Yoshi[]
The forces of Matsu Tsuko stormed Kyūden Kakita, and his wife Barahime was taken as a hostage. His son was safe, as he was at the time studying diplomacy at Shizuka Toshi. [6] Yoshi acted swiftly, and arranged the support of Ide Tadaji to lever the Scorpion power at Court, and shortly he sent his niece Doji Shizue to Unicorn lands, to arrange a military alliance with the Unicorn Clan Champion Shinjo Altansarnai. [8] Shizue succeeded, and the Blue Horde was led by the Unicorn Champion into battle against the Lion coming to the aid of the Crane. In turn the Crane would arrange the marriage of her daughter Shinjo Haruko. [13] As part of Yoshi's plan to undermine Shoju's grip on the Throne, Tadaji pleaded that the Imperial Regent intervene in the Lion's invasion of Unicorn lands, a petition which was backed by Asako Togama, the Asako Daimyō, alongside with Doji Fumiki, against the opposition of Ikoma Ujiaki, the Lion ambassador, but Shoju denied Tadaji's request. Shortly after Yoshi learned that Kachiko was missing, and she had been replaced by a body double. He also got insight that Bayushi Aramoro had been involved in the killing attempt against Akodo Toturi. [14] His wife was presumed dead when Kyūden Kakita was destroyed by the use of gaijin pepper, [15] but she survived, becoming a hostage of the Lion. [16]
Named as Regent[]
Agasha Sumiko revealed Yoshi that the ancestral sword of the Hantei, Kunshu, had been sent to Yogo Junzo, the Yogo Daimyō, because the blade had been cursed, having drawn the blood of the Emperor. After a meeting with Toturi and Sumiko both Champions appeared at Imperial Court and resigned from their posts, accusing Shoju as the person behing the regicide of the late Emperor. [17] Eventually Mirumoto Hitomi, leader of the Army of the Rising Wave, ordered her forces to seize the Imperial Palace to put under arrest the Regent. Yoshi prepared a writ of allowance to permit Hitomi to legally enter with her army, and Shoju was secured to deliver him to the justice of the Imperial Chancellor. [18] Yoshi replaced Shoju as the Regent, and he quickly ordered the Lion clan to remove their troops from Crane and Unicorn territory, and to end the hostilities. [15]
Usurper sat Upon the Emerald Throne[]
Shoju violently seized control of the Forbidden City with an army of Imperial Legionnaires led by Ambassador Ikoma Ujiaki and loyal Scorpions. He sat upon the Emerald Throne and declared himself in league with the Shadowlands. [19]
Fighting the Usurpers[]
In the 18th day of the Month of Hida an assembled army of Crane, Lion, Phoenix, Scorpion, and Unicorn samurai began the assault of the capital, and the Army of the Rising Waves joined them, quarreling the usurpers within the Forbidden City. Yoshi sent word to the Crane and Phoenix navies to blockade the defendr's port of entry, to starve them out. The Tortoise began to patrol the outer waters for opportunists who might slip through. In the fifth Day of the Month of Togashi they received word from the Crab that Hida Kisada had fallen, and Akuma no Oni's horde marched across their provinces with the discipline of a well-trained Shadowlands army. [20]
Reinstated[]
The assembled armies of the clans killed the Oni Lord and defeated the inbvaders. The traitor Shoju was killed by Mirumoto Hitomi, and Yoshi was reinstated as Imperial Regent, until the Imperial Prince would be found. Yoshi ffered a substantial reward to any who could provide the Hantei heirs with safe conduct to the capital. [21]
