Kakita Shiko was a courtier of the Crane Clan, daughter of famed poet Kakita Shijin. In 1160 she had been recently appointed as sensei of Poetry in the Artisan Academy. She was somewhat shy and nervously dreaded disappointing her ancestors. [1]
