Kakita Ryoku was one of the most famous storytellers throughout history and Imperial Advisor to Hantei XXXVIII.

Training[]

Born in a family of Kakita Artisans, Ryoku was first sent to the Kakita Artisan Academy to study storytelling. Her skill at manipulating her classmates was quickly noticed, and she was sent to the Doji Courtier Academy. Ryoku loved the arts, but she embraced her studies to influence the story's outcome. [1]

Imperial Advisor[]

After her gempukku Ryoku soon became a regular attendee at the Imperial Winter Court, and in one of them married one of her younger sisters to Emperor Hantei XXXVII. [2] Ryoku was the aunt of the Emperor Hantei XXXVIII, [3] and his Imperial Advisor in the early part of his reign and serving as Mistress of Ceremonies for many of his Winter Courts. [1] She greeted all visitors to the Imperial Palace and ensured their stay was pleasant. Her nephew took her in high regard, and turned to Ryoku when he needed advice. [4]

Writer[]

She was the author of the novel Winter. The novel was quite popular among the ladies in Rokugan, as it detailed some of the famous romances of her time. In addition romance the novel detailed many political strategies, and is considered by many to one of the best books on politics ever written. [5] It also scryed on the enigmatic Dragon Clan, [6] and the treacherous but loyal Scorpion Clan. [7]

Retirement[]

In 1120 [8] Bayushi Kachiko replaced her as Imperial Advisor. [9] Ryoku was near her seventies when Winter Court at Kyuden Seppun was held in winter 1122-1123. [10]
