Kakita Asami was a courtier of the Crane Clan.
True Love[]
Asami crossed letters with her childhood sweetheart, Doji Kuwanan, but they interrupted them after his father's death. [1]
Osari Plains[]
Three years later the Osari Plains were contested by the Lion Clan. These lands had been occupied by the Lion just for three generations before they had returned to Crane control two turns of seasons ago. Her father Kakita Yuri provided a diplomatic back channel during the public rounds of negotiation at the Imperial Capital. Asami and her yōjimbō Kakita Kaezin moved to Lion lands to discuss with her diplomatic counterpart, Ikoma Eiji, in presence of his own yojimbo, Matsu Beiona. Asami was disheartened when Eiji told that a band of ronin had slaughtered the defenders of the Osari village of Shirei Mura. Kuwanan, who was part of the Crane forces at Shirei, was presumed dead. If the Lion overcame the ronin first, they would get the Emperor's favor regarding the control of the plains. Eiji informed that Asami and her retinue were hostages until negotiations in Otosan Uchi had finished. [1] By Imperial decree Toshi Ranbo was put under Scorpion administration, but Asami was not released by the Matsu. [2] She was eventually released by Matsu Seishin, and Bayushi Iwane was instrumental on his decission. [3]
Kyūden Kitsune[]
Asami was assigned to the court of the Fox Clan at Kyūden Kitsune, where she met Doji Kuzunobu, who had been sent there to ask aid for the Crane. Kuzunobu was a former member of the Kitsune who had married her lady Doji Hotaru. Eventually Kaezin was assigned as Kuzunobu's yōjimbō in order to protect him from threats that lurked in the perilous Kitsune forest. [3] In the Month of Ryoshun, Asami received a letter from Doji Shizue, addressing all the changes which happened in Rokugan in the last months since the Battle of Cherry Blossom Snow Lake. [4]
