Kaiu Suman was a engineer of the Crab Clan.
Engineer[]
Suman had a special gift for engineering, knowing instinctively how to compensate for sloped terrain, soft earth, and other difficulties and hazards. [1]
Kaiu Kabe[]
Suman was given the task of joining a group repairing the Carpenter Wall. This was a great honor to Suman until he noticed that his foreman and other workers were all ronin. During this time, Suman learned a lot about what masterless men were willing to do without fear. They worked without armor while Suman was weighted down by his own. They were willing to die for the work while he worried about goblin or oni attacking.
Within ten years, ten of the fourteen workers were dead, but the remaining four went on, with Suman's shining recommendations, to safer lines of work. Forty years later, all of the ronin who had worked with Suman were dead, including his foreman, Kikkawa. From this experience rose Suman's high esteem of Ronin. [2]
Scorpion Coup[]
When news arrived of the Scorpion Coup, the Crab Clan Champion, Hida Kisada, assembled an army that joined the combined forces of the Great Clans at Otosan Uchi in the fourth day of the Coup. Hida Yakamo, Kuni Yori, and Kaiu Suman were part of the Crab forces. [3]
Crab Fleet[]
During the Clan War Suman was in charge of the building a Crab fleet, despite the the sabotage efforts of the Mantis Clan, [4] in the Mantis southern islands. [5]
Kaiu Daimyo[]
Suman stood beside the Naga when they were allied with the Crab to retake Hiruma Castle. [6] When Hida O-Ushi was the Crab Clan Champion, Suman was the Kaiu Daimyo at that time. He believed that restoring Shiro Hiruma would be too costly in both materials and manpower. The Hiruma Daimyo Hiruma Zunguri demanded Suman make an effort to restore the castle to its original state. Kaiu Endo stepped in, and began to gather willing Kaiu, finishing the major repairs on the castle in two years. [7]
