Kaito Shrine-Keeper
Kaito Shrine-Keeper was a school of the Kaito family, taught in the Dōjō of the Swaying Branch. The shrine keepers were devoted to protect their ancestral temple, Sanpuku Seidō, organized the maintenance of shrine buildings, assisted another priest or shugenja in any rituals or ceremonies, and in the absence of a priest they undertook these ceremonies themselves. [1]
Tradition[]
After six years of training the Shrine Keepers had an enciclopedic knowledge of the different types of spirits, the characteristics of the various Spirit Realms, and they became familiar with divination, wards of protection and banishment, ceremonial offerings, ane even the exorcism of malicious spirits or demons. Shrine Keepors learned to defend their sacred places throught the art of archery, kyūjutsu, learning secrets of imbuing arrows with spiritual qualities and blessings. Only a handful applicants were accepted each year, and only after a they were carefully inspected. Members of the Isawa family without the shugenja gist were common applicants, as were Shiba and Asako when they needed fresh shrine keepers. [1]
