Heaven's Mirror was a lake near the Temple to Emma-O and Kyuden Kurogane-Hana. [1] The village near the castle was named after the lake, Kagami no Tengoku Mura. It was a popular resting-place for migrating herons and cranes. [2]

Legends said that the monk Yama was beheaded there by bandits, just before he reached enlightenment. His spirit in anger killed the intruders, and dragged his souls to Meido, transformed in Emma-O, the Final Judge. [3]
