Jurōjin
Jurōjin was the Fortune of Longevity, one of the Seven Fortunes, [1] mentor of doctors, naturalists, and apothecaries. [2]
Healer[]
Jurōjin was a healer who rose to great prominence among the original followers of Asako prior to the founding of the Empire. So devoted was he to healing that he was elevated to the status of a Fortune, becoming the Fortune of Longevity. The Shrine to Jurōjin was built to revere him. [3]
Fortune[]
Jurōjin was depicted as a thin old man, as old as the stars, leaning on a staff accompanied by a deer, turtle, or crane, who lived in a certain constellation that looked like him in the southern sky. He was known to be a patron of the visual arts; all of the Fortunist monks sworn to him were diligent painters and sculptors, producing fine paintings, screens, and sculptures large and small whose sale to wealthy patrons sustained their monasteries comfortably.
