Isawa Rujo was a Master of Earth.
Demeanor[]
Rujo was staunch and devout with a great respect for the kami. [1]
Master of Earth[]
Isawa Tadaka, son of Isawa Ujina the Master of Void, became his favored student and eventually the Scion of Earth. Rujo took advantage of Tadaka's own research and insights, which began to appear in his latest texts. [2]
Tadaka's Agenda[]
Tadaka was driven by the urge of knowing more about the taint, and how to confront it. He managed to get scrolls of the dreaded Isawa Akuma, detailing the research made in his youth related to purification of the elements. Rujo was horrified when he uncovered his student research, and felt that Tadaka could be lured by the call of the Shadowlands. The elemental imbalance, the increased Shadowlands attacks, the shifting of the night stars had adviced Rujo that something was coming from the Pit itself. [2]
Celestial Imbalance[]
Signs of elemental imbalance grew worse, and the Masters studied the matter. The Master of Water Isawa Kaiyoko, the strongest of the Masters, attempted to correct the balance by herself, but soundly failed and the Crane lands were weathered by a tsunami. She eventually retired and Asako Azunami succeeded her. [3]
Daughter's Wedding[]
In 1123 his daugther was preparing her upcoming wedding. [3]
Rōnin[]
Rujo publicy rejected to give permission to Tadaka for moving to the Kuni lands, in order to complete his research. Tadaka was dispatched into an investigation, to clarify some unusual occurrences at Sanpuku Seidō, which had been warned by an anonymous letter received by Rujo. [3] After Tadaka's return from the Kaito lands, a duel in the Dragon Heart Plains was held to resolve the matter of honor between Tadaka and his sensei, being Ujina his second and Asako Togama the judge. Eventually Tadaka was the victor, thus he became the new Master of Earth. During the duel Tadaka suffered grievous wounds in his face, scarred flesh twisted around the gaping hole where his cheek had been, exposing his teeth and the bone of his jaw, a wound which would never heal. Rujo became a rōnin and left Nikesake heading toward the Castle of the Dragonfly and the lands of the Dragon. [2]
Fighting the Usurpers[]
This year the Scorpion Clan Champion Bayushi Shoju violently seized control of the Forbidden City with an army of Imperial Legionnaires led by Ambassador Ikoma Ujiaki and loyal Scorpions. He sat upon the Emerald Throne, having murdered the Emperor and declared himself in league with the Shadowlands. Rujo was part of an assembled army of Crane, Lion, Phoenix, Scorpion, Dragon and Unicorn samurai who began the assault of Otosan Uchi. They received word from the Crab that Hida Kisada had fallen, and Akuma no Oni's horde marched across their provinces with the discipline of a well-trained Shadowlands army. [4]
