Isawa Hisen was a shugenja and Maho-tsukai of the Phoenix Clan.

Hisen studied maho and decided to create a small force of slaves. He used the spell Cross the Veil of Sleep to bind kami into the minds of sleeping victims, to be awakened at a later time under his influence. Publicly Hisen had made his personal goal to magically “cure” madness, which allowed him to enter the minds of his patients manipulating their thoughts. [1]
Exposed[]
One of his student and also a victim, Kitsu Iroku, exhibited odd behavior and it was determined that her mind had been affected by the efforts of the Isawa researcher, who was removed from his post. Iroku sought vengeance and two years later manipulated a group of samurai to attempt stealing the scrolls from her former sensei, which eventually lead to reveal Hisen's unclean past. [2]
