Isawa Ejuko was Master of Water at the beginning of the 8th century.

Ejuko was Isawa Maroko's sensei, and was approached by her prior to Maroko's marriage to Mirumoto Asijin despite the fact that Maroko had been engaged to Akodo Yokutsu. Even though she had little political power, Ejuko gave her pupil her blessing [1] and married the couple. [2] With the breaking of the Battle of Kyuden Tonbo in 704, Ejuko persuaded the Phoenix Clan, to come to the aid of Maroko and Asijin. And on the second day of the siege the Phoenix armies joined the Dragon Clan Armies in defending the settlement that would become Kyuden Tonbo. It is believed this was used by the Phoenix as a means to gain favour with the Dragon, and indeed shortly afterwards, the two Clans entered into a trade agreement favourable to the Phoenix. [3]
